“the act of sewing is a process of emotional repair” -Louise Bourgeoise
sometime during the first spring of the pandemic, i began work on my new project, Cirque de Crochet, with the aim of combining my love of (and degree in) fiber arts with my work as a circus artist. i have always been overwhelmed with feeling for the many generations of hands before me that have crafted afghans and quilts for their families, embroidered flowers or birds onto pillowcases and seat covers, spent hour after hour tatting lace for a sleeve. as both an artist and a craftsperson, Cirque de Crochet is my way of stepping into that slipstream, being carried along by the current of my contemporaries and my predecessors in making a better world with thread and yarn. through sourcing found handcrafted textiles and combining them with my own sculptural elements, using as much upcycled/used/thrifted/gifted material as possible, i am creating a body of visual and performance work that steps out of patriarchal, industrial, and capitalist systems, and into one that values emotional and creative labor. something well-made takes time to finish. Cirque de Crochet is my personal antidote to our mass-produced world. made with love, from me, for you.
Cirque de Crochet is currently researching and developing a new solo show, which will enter the world in vignettes starting spring 2022, and hopefully be touring in 2023. have patience, craft takes time
